Just a few short years ago, not one of us had even been to the Dominican Republic. And only Emily had been on a missions trip before, back in 2000 when she went to Pakistan with The Mobility Project. The rest of us had never been on one. But our home church, Timberline Church, announced they were offering a 7-day missions trip to the DR, so Emily wanted to find out more right away. Long story short, we signed up and packed our bags!

It was a life-changing trip, and we fell in love with the Haitian schools and churches that we visited there in the DR. When we got back, we told the trip leader, Jackie, that we were definitely “in” for next year’s trip. She smiled and said that the church needed trip leaders or there would be no trip. We volunteered to lead the next trip and had a great experience doing so!

Long story short again, we felt God tugging at our hearts to do more. Little nudges here and there told us that it was great that we were leading trips and getting involved. But we kept feeling the words “do more”. So to us, “do more” means moving to the Dominican Republic and getting directly involved. It means at least a 2-year commitment with Assemblies of God World Missions.

Throughout this process, we’ve focused specifically on one verse. In Acts 20:24, Paul says “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” We want to make sure that it’s obvious to God that we know our lives are worth nothing to us, unless we use them for the work He has assigned to us!

We would love it for you to partner with us in this journey! We need financial support, of course, but we most importantly need prayer support. We will be sending updates and prayer requests on our email newsletters and on our Facebook page. You can sign up for the email newsletter at www.tinyurl.com/vanpeltsignup. And you can “like” our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/vanpeltfamily

If you would like to partner with us financially, you can do that, too, at www.tinyurl.com/vanpeltpartner.

We would love to tell you more about what we’ll be doing and more details about how we got here. Please let us know if you would like to set up a time to meet face-to-face or over Zoom/Facetime.

And thank you in advance for your prayers!
