Yesterday, while driving to church, our car broke down. We had it towed to the nearest shop hoping it was a minor issue, but it turns out that the motor needs replaced. The repair would cost more than the value of the car, so it is effectively totaled. We are now down to one car (which we are grateful to have even that!!), which is not ideal. God has blessed us in so many ways in our life and especially in these past few months of itineration.
Please pray with us that God would provide a second vehicle for us somehow. Thank you!!
Pray for us as we establish a healthy rhythm of life/work and Sabbath here.
We will be helping our team leaders to host the first 2 short term teams from the US. Pray for all of the logistics as we prepare for their arrival. This includes housing, transport, all of the Tabernacle site prep, outreach/evangelism opportunities as well as planning for their needs and safety while in country. Everything is still new to us but God has helped us to get established and learn so much already. We know He has a plan for these teams and their time here in Guinea.
Both Joe and Cyndi have been invited to preach at local churches in the month of September. We want to be ready to do so in French. Our current level of french is basic and conversation, but we are working to grow our ability to preach and teach in it. Pray for us as we are preparing for our memories, pronunciation and for clarity in our presentations of the gospel.
Matthew and Abigail are both working hard a school. Pray for wisdom, and good time management. Also pray with us that they both would hear the Lord's voice more clearly day by day.
The National Church leaders have identified 54 locations that need Tabernacles. Our desire is to construct the first 7-10 before the end of November. Pray for the funds and man power to get these first Tabs done soon. Each Tab currently cost $10,000. Pray also for us as we are looking ways to source more materials in country to bring that cost down.
Pray for Indonesia as demonstrations from social and political injustices have started all throughout the country. Pray for peace in our cities and positive change in policies and laws.
“When Jesus saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a pastor.” Matthew 9:36
Please praise God with us and pray with us:
*Max’s students in Ecuador began the Christian Social Ethics course with having little education before in this area. By the end of the week, the students were committed to leading the church with eyes toward the needs of the people in their community and the world while at the same time proclaiming the Good News of salvation. As he was heading for the airport to leave, some of the students took him to Mt. Chimborazo at more than 14,000 feet where he experienced snow and their gift of a poncho!
*Sylvia will again be teaching Theological English online, September 2 through November 6, for our students seeking better language skills required for advanced theological materials not available in Spanish.
Thank you!
¡Muchas gracias!
We've been reaching out in our neighbourhood and building relationships, but we need God's plan for the next step. We want to begin engaging people with the Gospel in a more formal way. Please pray with us for God's timing, location, and method.
This is my first time serving as a staff pastor in a church, and there's a lot of work that needs to get done to help these ministries thrive. Please pray for the youth group I'll be leading, the children's church I'll be developing, and my activity in helping the church's online and outreach presence. And pray for the students and members of the church when I return to serve in the church!
Wisdom as we reflect on the impact of our month-long ministry trip to the Philippines, Thailand, and a sensitive nation. Many connections were initiated that can be built on for the future.
Good Health - our last trip kept us non-stop on the go for over a month.
