Bob & Barb Van Wyk serve as missionaries in Botswana, Africa. Since 2010 they have partnered with the national church to reach children including training and equipping Sunday School teachers with skills, curriculum, and holding children's crusades. Their vision is to see a kid-friendly church within walking distance of every Botswana child.
In addition, they pioneered and piloted Gospel Evangelistic Ministry in the Schools (GEMS), a program that brings the Gospel into the public primary schools of Botswana. The first two years of this three year curriculum has been published. The third year is being edited while a three-month Christian foundational set of lessons will be produced soon. GEMS has been very successful as school principals report significant decreases in behavioral problems and increases in student test scores. For the next term the Van Wyk’s will continue to work with the Sunday School department, assisting the national leadership of GEMS and add other components to the GEMS curriculum.
Bob and Barb also serve as leaders in Base Camp, an initiative of AGWM Africa to help new missionaries discover their call to Africa. This program serves to ensure that those who have a call to missions in Africa have the necessary key components in place so they and their families will be healthy, able to thrive, and be productive in their areas of service on the continent.
Bob and Barb have three grown children. Austin is married to Jaime. He is a full-time firefighter and paramedic. Jaime works in law enforcement as a jailer. Stephanie has a degree in English and is pursuing her master's degree in technical writing. She is also a gradutate assistant and is teaching two freshman English Comp classes. Cameron is in his third year at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Texas. He is a resident advisor (RA).
